Speak Up for Families! Testimony Needed for CT Child Tax Credit Public Hearing
CT Early Childhood Alliance is a proud member of the CT Child Tax Credit Coalition, led by Alliance member United Way of CT!
Mark your calendars: The Finance Committee will hear public testimony on the CT Child Tax Credit (HB 5986 and SB 740) on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 11:00 am. Let the Finance Committee know how the CT Child Tax Credit will impact you, your family, your business, your community, your economy - or all of the above - by taking the steps below:
Sign up to give spoken testimony:
Register via this link by 3pm on Tuesday, February 25.
Submit your written testimony:
Even if you’re giving spoken testimony, it is recommended to submit written testimony as well. The three minute time limit for spoken testimony goes by faster than you think, and submitting your written testimony ensures that the committee will get the full impact of your testimony even if you run out of time. Submit your written testimony here.
Ask others to submit testimony, too:

Ask your volunteers, clients, colleagues, board of directors
Send an eblast to your lists
Connect with your teachers, pediatricians, child care providers, and other businesses that offer services and support to Connecticut families.
Attend our Testimony Prep Session via Zoom on Monday, February 24 at 1:30 pm!
Daniel Fitzmaurice, Director of Advocacy for the United Way of CT, will be joining Merrill to discuss the CT Child Tax Credit and answer any questions you may have. Click here to let us know you’re coming.
Make a plan for the hearing on February 26 at 11:00 am:
Even if you don’t want to speak, you can still make an impact by showing up! Sit with the CT Child Tax Credit Coalition during the hearing and show legislators that you support investing in Connecticut’s families. We’ll be in the Legislative Office Building, Hearing Room 2E.
You can also watch online via the Finance Committee’s YouTube feed.
If you haven’t already heard, the CT Child Tax Credit would:
Provide a $600 per-child tax credit to 75% of families in Connecticut.
Be available to single filers making up to $100,000 annually and joint filers making up to $200,000 annually.
Be fully-refundable, meaning that families with no tax liability would receive the full credit.
In the current economy, parents need all the help they can get. This credit provides financial assistance with flexibility - it could could mean a week of summer camp, catching up on bills, paying down debt, doctor visits, child care, or countless other costs associated with raising children - based on what the family’s individual needs are.
The CT Child Tax Credit is a critical investment in our families, our economy, and our future. It will contribute to the financial stability of families, but it will also boost local economies: Moody’s Analytics estimates that for every dollar invested in child tax credits generates $1.38 in spending.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting this important legislation. For questions, please email vanessa@cteca.org.
